The Language of Flowers

Flower arrangement

The Language of Flowers

Flowers were used for much more than just decoration in the Victorian Era. Each flower had a special meaning and were used to communicate messages to other people.  A suitor never called on a young lady without presenting a Tussy Mussy.  Historically, Tussy means flowers and mussy means wet moss, which kept the flowers moist.  Deciphering the meaning of a Tussy Mussy was done with the Tussy Dictionary to try to interpret a suitor's true intentions.
